Student Leadership

At Eagle Point Primary School, we are focusing on developing a strong leadership program that improves students' abilities to be confident members of the school community and the wider world they live in. We are continually developing our program that fosters students’ leadership skills through formal programs and practical leadership experiences. This approach recognises that students can be leaders across many different areas, and that leadership skills learned in primary school can lay the foundations for future leadership opportunities.

Opportunities for student leadership occur through involvement in Junior School Council (JSC), School Captaincy and House Captain Leadership in our Green, Red, Yellow and Blue (GRYB) House teams.

Our JSC offers leadership opportunities from Foundation to Grade 6. Students are all envolved in JSC with classrooms responsible for fundrasing and events through out the year. The JSC is lead by the Year 6 School Captains and a liaison staff member.

Our GRYB team plans and facilitates a variety of activities throughout the year, such as planning and running Harmony and Reconciliation Day activities for the whole school or running a variety of sporting events. They are encouraged to demonstrate leadership qualities throughout the year, and participate in professional learning to assist the development of these qualities.

striving for success

School Captains
Our 2024 School Captains for Eagle Point Primary School are Emily Johns and Sunny Nicholl.

Our School Captains are important role models for our school and we congratulate them on their role within our school community.
School Houses
We have four Houses at Eagle Point Primary School:

Green - Sea Eagles
Red - Swans
Yellow - Sandpipers
Blue - Pelicans

The houses provide opportunities for all of our students to be in a house group. These groups are formalised from Prep - Grade 6, with families being placed in the same house. Opportunities are provided for houses to play sport against each other, compete in Fun Runs, Cross Country and to have lunch together once a week.

Rotary
Last year we saw nearly all of our Grade 6 students participate in the Junior Rotary Community Award which is hosted by the Bairnsdale Rotary Club. This program sees our Grade 6 children learn a new skill, increase their fitness levels, contribute to a community group and participate in special meetings and events within their community. It is such a worthwhile program to do as it increases confidence of students and allows them to participate in events and activities that they may not have an opportunity to do so.

The students are recognised for their efforts in a special ceremony held at the conclusion of the program.
